  1. Brett Aged Export Stout and Cask Session IPA

January 30, 2015 by Paul Kasay

13|02 is a Brett Aged version of our export stout, 08|01, aged with Brett C for six months. The wild yeast strain, brettanomyces claussenii, was first isolated from British ale, and stouts were originally made in London in the early 1800s. 13|02 is our take on the traditional style, with the Brett providing a pleasant acidity and pronounced barnyard funk.

The batch is being released exclusively at the brewery and will be available for purchase this Saturday.  This weekend, we’ll also have a “one off” cask of our new Session IPA 11|08 – Mosaic & Centennial, dry hopped with NZ Cascade and Nelson Sauvin leaf hops.

  2. BBNo. & TAP Coffee Collaboration

January 16, 2015 by Dave Seymour

    16|03-coffee

After the great reviews 10|04 – Coffee Porter – Kilimanjaro received at our End of Year party last December, we couldn’t wait to get more coffee into our beers. And so we’re excited to bring you another one-off cask, this time filled with our juicy new red ale, 16|03 – Mosaic & Chinook.

For this beer we approached our friends at TAP Coffee to see what’s new and exciting in their part of town. They came back to us with two great coffees; a natural process Yirgecheffe and a washed Kenyan. Unlike our Coffee Porters, where the complexity, richness and funk shown by natural process beans are best, the bright and clear flavours of the washed process pair perfectly with the punchy hops of our U.S. style Red Ale.

From the Gikirima Factory in the Embu District of Kenya, this coffee is a mix of SL34 and SL28 varietals and displays a ripe and pungent aroma of red berries with a background of jelly candy-sweets. Grown and processed with great care and attention, this coffee is then handed over to the expert roasters at TAP before being placed in our grubby little hands.

So come and join us tomorrow at BBNo. HQ to taste this one-of-a-kind cask.
